U.S. Soccer VP criticizes Trump over Balogun's World Cup suspension

Summary

U.S. Soccer vice president Nathan Goldberg Crenier criticized President Donald Trump for his involvement in the red card suspension of Folarin Balogun during the FIFA World Cup. Balogun's red card was overturned, allowing him to play, but it did not prevent the U.S. Men's National Team from losing 4-1 to Belgium in the Round of 16. Crenier argued that Trump's actions created a 'moral stain' on the tournament and undermined soccer's integrity. Balogun acknowledged the controversy surrounding his reinstatement, noting that it affected his teammates and the team's image. Trump's return to the World Cup stage is scheduled as Argentina competes for the title against Spain.
