USA faces Belgium for World Cup quarter-finals amid Balogun reprieve

Summary

The United States is set to play Belgium on July 6 in Seattle for a spot in the World Cup quarter-finals. The match follows a dramatic intervention that allowed forward Folarin Balogun to participate, despite a previous red card that triggered a ban. President Donald Trump's call to FIFA chief Gianni Infantino led to a suspension of Balogun's punishment, a decision that has elicited reactions from Belgium and other teams. The US aims for its first quarter-final appearance since 2002, fueled by strong public expectations. Earlier, European champions Spain also compete against Portugal in Dallas for a place in the last eight.
