Sources spoke with the Guardian on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the matter. Pochettino and the federation have been discussing a new deal for about three months, said one source. Pochettino, along with US Soccer CEO JT Batson, have both spoken publicly about contract negotiations as recently as late May, around the time that Pochettino was reported to have had talks with Serie A side Milan. United States men's national team coach Mauricio Pochettino and U.S. Soccer have had positive talks about a possible contract extension, sources have told ESPN.

If he accepts, he would be with the USMNT for the 2030 World Cup cycle.

Pochettino took over as the U.S. team's coach in the fall of 2024 and his current deal expires after the World Cup

While widely expected to return to the top echelons of European club soccer, USMNT manager Maurico Pochettino reportedly has the option to stay with the Stars and Stripes.

To start this year's World Cup, the Pochettino-led American squad won consecutive matches, something the USMNT hadn't done in the tournament since 1930.
