USMNT opens World Cup against Paraguay, predicted to face Spain in quarterfinals

The 2026 FIFA World Cup begins in Mexico, with the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) starting their campaign against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium on Friday. ESPN analyst Ryan O’Hanlon forecasts the USMNT will be eliminated in the quarterfinals by Spain, a strong contender with a talented roster including Lamine Yamal and Rodri. The USMNT has not advanced beyond the quarterfinals since their debut tournament in 1930. Tim Ream has been named team captain, leading a roster that includes both experienced players and first-time World Cup selections. Their match against Paraguay will set the tone for the USMNT’s goal of advancing far in the tournament.
