Vanderbilt football emphasizes run game with strong backfield in 2026

Summary

Vanderbilt football plans to rely heavily on its running backs for the 2026 season, with Sedrick Alexander leading the charge after a productive 2025 campaign. Alongside Alexander, Makhilyn Young, Jamezell Lassiter, and promising freshmen Evan Hampton and Izayah Lee are expected to contribute significantly. Offensive coordinator Tim Beck aims to creatively utilize this depth in a run-heavy offense, especially with reduced reliance on the passing game following the departure of quarterbacks Diego Pavia and Eli Stowers. The Commodores' running backs are noted for their blocking skills and versatility, skill sets emphasized during preseason practices as they prepare for the upcoming season.
