Vikings set for quarterback competition ahead of 2026 season

The Minnesota Vikings are preparing for a quarterback competition between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy as training camp approaches in two weeks. Following a disappointing 2025 season, both players are under pressure to perform, with Murray becoming a free agent after this season. Analysts suggest that if neither quarterback excels in 2026, the Vikings might seek a new signal-caller in the 2027 NFL Draft. SI's Justin Melo projects that the Vikings will select Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr with the 13th overall pick, noting that new general manager Nolan Teasley may not be fully committed to McCarthy and Murray. If the Vikings do pick at that position, it could signify that their current quarterbacks struggled throughout the upcoming season.
