Visalia football coach John Yavasile dies at 76 in accident

John Yavasile, the all-time winningest head football coach in Visalia history, passed away on August 10 after a fall on his property. He was 76 years old and had an illustrious coaching career at Redwood High School from 1989 to 2010, where he led the team to a Central Section Yosemite Division title in 1996. His teams were successful in the Cowhide rivalry against Mt. Whitney, achieving a record of 19-3. As the Rangers’ head coach, he secured seven West Yosemite League championships and retired with a record of 156-91-4. A memorial event is planned for the 30th anniversary of the 1996 championship team in October.
