Vote for Week 1 high school football Player of the Week

The Week 1 high school football season in Rhode Island featured strong performances, prompting the Providence Journal to nominate five players for the Player of the Week award. Voting opens Monday at 9 a.m. and will run until Friday at 11:59 p.m. Fans are encouraged to support their local athletes by participating in the poll. Max Tuthill of Juanita Sanchez and Providence Country Day was named the Preseason Player of the Year but his team lost to Cranston East in their opener. Nominee Will Francis led Mt. Hope to a 35-0 win over Bristol-Plymouth, while Spencer Padula contributed significantly to East Greenwich's 47-7 victory against Ponaganset. Jordan Robertson also shined for Mount Pleasant in their 20-2 win over Coventry.
