Wake Forest faces uncertainty as the team prepares for Thursday's season opener against the Akron Zips. Head coach Jake Dickert and his staff are managing a lack of game tape on the Akron starting quarterback position. Reese Poffenbarger remains the primary candidate, though his eligibility for a sixth college season currently rests on a pending NCAA medical waiver decision. If Poffenbarger is unavailable, redshirt sophomore Brayden Roggow is expected to start. The Wake Forest defensive staff has studied high school highlights of Akron’s secondary quarterback options to bridge the gap in scouting intel. Dickert noted that the team is preparing for the varied offensive looks typically deployed by Akron head coach Joe Moorhead, specifically targeting the power read series and the deep passing threats posed by receivers Kyan Mason and Marcel Williams.

- •The NCAA has not yet ruled on the eligibility of Akron quarterback Reese Poffenbarger.
- •Brayden Roggow is the likely alternative starter if Poffenbarger is ruled ineligible.
