Wales claims cycling medals on opening night of Commonwealth Games

Wales achieved a clean sweep of medals during the opening night of cycling at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow. The women’s team sprint trio of Emma Finucane, Lowri Thomas, and Rhian Edmunds secured gold, while Para-cyclist James Ball and his guide Matt Rotherham earned silver in the men’s B tandem 1,000m time trial. Ciara Oliva contributed with a bronze in the women’s team pursuit after returning from retirement. Despite success, disappointment arose as Lewis Oliva's sprint teammate Ioan Hepburn withdrew due to illness, preventing them from competing for bronze. Wales aims for continued success in upcoming events throughout the Commonwealth Games, with Finucane slated to participate in three individual events this week.
