Wasim Akram criticizes PSL for lack of batting talent

Former cricketer Wasim Akram recently questioned the ability of the Pakistan Super League to develop noteworthy batting talent during its ten-year history. Comparing the league to the IPL, Akram pointed to 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as a benchmark for young talent that Pakistan currently lacks. He argued that the PSL primarily produces pace bowlers but fails to discover and nurture batting prospects at the same rate. Akram identified the lack of a robust grassroots system in Pakistan as the primary issue and urged the PCB to invest 100 million rupees each into club cricket in Karachi and Lahore. These comments arrive while the Pakistan national team faces a difficult Test series in England under Babar Azam. Akram noted that without structural changes to domestic club cricket, the league will continue to recycle existing players rather than identifying new talent.
