Wayne Bennett accepts advisory role with the Queensland Maroons for 2027

Wayne Bennett has reached an agreement with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Queensland Rugby League to serve as an advisor for the 2027 State of Origin series. Bennett will operate in a non-contracted capacity to provide guidance on selection, strategy, and tactics for the Maroons. He will support incoming coach Darius Boyd, who recently accepted the head coaching position following the departure of Billy Slater. Slater held the role for five years, securing three series victories during his tenure. Boyd, who previously coached the Queensland under-19 program, enters his first senior head coaching role with a long history of working under Bennett at the Broncos, Dragons, and Knights. It remains unconfirmed if assistants Ben Te'o and Matt Ballin will remain with the coaching staff for the upcoming season.
