West Ottawa defeats Mattawan 53-22 in home football opener

West Ottawa earned a 53-22 victory over Mattawan at West Ottawa Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 3. Sophomore free safety Braden Overbeek recorded two interceptions, both of which led to Panthers touchdowns. Teammate Jeremiah Edwards contributed five rushing touchdowns during the first half of the contest. The team reached the 50-point mark for the first time since 2019 while relying on a dominant performance from the offensive line. West Ottawa coach Pat Collins noted that the group improved its execution of the offensive identity compared to the previous week. The Panthers, now 1-1, controlled both sides of the line of scrimmage throughout the matchup.
