West Point golfers from the class of 2005 served across combat zones

Cadets who enrolled at the U.S. Military Academy in 2001 and played for the golf team saw their collegiate careers interrupted by the events of September 11. Known as the Class of 9/11, six members of the team eventually deployed overseas for military service following their May 2005 graduation. Among the group, Bryon Vincent received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star after sustaining injuries from roadside bombs during his deployment to Iraq. While serving in active conflict zones, various team members maintained a connection to the sport by practicing in temporary locations or sketching golf holes. The group secured three Patriot League championships and broke a six-year losing streak against Navy before completing their service tours. Several veterans continued to follow professional golf from abroad, viewing the game as a link to their time at West Point.
