West Virginia is set to retire the number 5 jersey of quarterback Pat White on September 5, 2026. This honor recognizes White for his standout four-year career with the Mountaineers, during which he maintained a 35-8 record. He finished his collegiate tenure with 6,049 passing yards and 4,480 rushing yards, contributing to 103 total touchdowns. White secured four bowl game victories, including appearances in the Sugar Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl. He is the second quarterback in the program's history to have his number retired, following Major Harris in 2021. Despite his significant impact on the football program and collegiate sports, White’s playing career occurred before the current era of student-athlete compensation.
