Western Michigan president questions officiating in Michigan football game

Michigan defeated Western Michigan 13-12 on Saturday night following a controversial officiating decision in the final seconds of the game. After the clock initially hit zero with Western Michigan leading 12-7, officials reviewed the play and added one second back to the game clock. Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood used that extra second to complete a 47-yard touchdown pass to JJ Buchanan. Western Michigan University president Russ Kavalhuna appeared on CNN to discuss the officiating process, noting that the video used by the Big Ten to justify the extra second differed from the footage broadcast to the public. While Kavalhuna met with Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti regarding the discrepancy, he acknowledged there is no mechanism to appeal the result. Western Michigan head coach Lance Taylor and Kavalhuna both stated that they believe the team performed well despite the outcome.
