White Sox assess relievers Grant Taylor and Hagen Smith for starting roles

The Chicago White Sox are considering relievers Grant Taylor and Hagen Smith for starting positions in 2027. General manager Chris Getz expressed confidence in their potential but did not commit to a timeline during a recent media session. The White Sox's starting pitchers logged the fewest innings in MLB this season, prompting the team to rely extensively on openers and bullpen games. Taylor ended the season with a 2.25 ERA and recorded a four-inning save in the postseason. Smith had a strong debut with a 1.29 ERA in August after transitioning from a starting role at Triple-A Charlotte.
