Wigan have completed the signing of goalkeeper Joe Whitworth from Premier League club Crystal Palace. The 22-year-old joins on a three-year contract, reuniting with manager Gary Caldwell. Whitworth previously played under Caldwell during two separate loan spells at Exeter City before the manager returned to Wigan in February. The goalkeeper gained experience in the top flight in March 2023, becoming the youngest player to start in goal for Crystal Palace at 19 years and 15 days old. This move adds depth to the Wigan squad following the conclusion of the transfer period. Whitworth cited his previous working relationship with the coaching staff as a key factor in his decision to join the club.
