Wimbledon champion Noskova, finalist Zverev eliminated early at Canadian Open

Wimbledon women's singles champion Linda Noskova lost in the first round of the Canadian Open in Toronto, falling to Caty McNally 7-6(5), 6-1. Noskova, now ranked No 7 in the world, led 5-1 in the first set and had two set points but could not convert. In Montreal, men's singles finalist Alexander Zverev was knocked out by Tallon Griekspoor, losing 6-7(3), 6-2, 6-4. This marks Zverev's first first-match loss of the season. Daniil Medvedev also faced an early exit, losing to Botic van de Zandschulp. Both players are expected to compete at the Cincinnati Open before the US Open commencing on August 30.
