Wisconsin restructures football roster for season opener against Notre Dame

Following two consecutive losing seasons, Wisconsin has overhauled its roster with 34 transfers as it prepares to face No. 4 Notre Dame at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Coach Luke Fickell, who holds a 17-21 record at the program, integrated 27 transfers from other Bowl Subdivision schools to address depth and talent gaps. The program sought input from former players to re-establish a team-focused identity and accountability standards. Last season, the Badgers struggled offensively, ranking near the bottom of the Bowl Subdivision in scoring and yardage. The team enters this season seeking to return to a traditional identity of effective rushing and defensive pressure after a period of poor performance.
