Women's Professional Baseball League set to begin inaugural season Saturday

The Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL), the first pro women's baseball league in over 70 years, starts its inaugural 30-game season on Saturday. Four teams will compete with their games played at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois. Opening day features a matchup between the Los Angeles Queens and New York Heights, with the San Francisco Firebells and Boston Hunters following on Sunday. This league aims to create new opportunities for female players, featuring notable athletes such as Kelsie Whitmore, Mo'ne Davis, and Ayami Sato, alongside former MLB stars managing the teams. The season will include televised games on ESPN and Scripps Sports Network.
