World War II veteran Sverre Vinje sings at Milwaukee Brewers game

Sverre Vinje, a 102-year-old Navy World War II veteran, performed "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch at the Milwaukee Brewers game on September 11. The appearance occurred in Milwaukee during a game against the Cincinnati Reds that resulted in a 20-0 victory for the Brewers. Vinje, a resident of Rockford, Illinois, enlisted in the military after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He received an ovation from the crowd during the performance. Vinje previously performed the song at other sporting events, including games featuring the Rockford IceHogs hockey team. The event took place as the Milwaukee Brewers secured a postseason spot.
