Wrexham appoint former Newcastle United official Steve Nickson as sporting director

Wrexham have officially appointed Steve Nickson as the club's first sporting director. Nickson joins the Championship side after spending 15 years at Newcastle United, most recently serving as head of recruitment. The 52-year-old will report to CEO Michael Williamson and work alongside manager Phil Parkinson to oversee scouting, player development, and first-team squad planning. His arrival follows a lengthy tenure at St James’ Park, where he previously led academy and first-team recruitment operations. Wrexham officials state the move is intended to build the necessary football structure for sustainable success as the club pursues its goal of reaching the Premier League. Nickson will assume his new responsibilities starting early this month.
