Wrexham is close to signing goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Sunderland ahead of their Championship opener against Cardiff City on August 17. Patterson, 26, is scheduled for a medical with Wrexham as Red Dragons manager Phil Parkinson aims to strengthen the squad after a recent loss to Middlesbrough. The move might allow current player Arthur Okonkwo to depart Wrexham, as he is in the final year of his contract. Patterson made 169 competitive appearances for Sunderland and played for the England Under-21s.
