WSL Football announced the launch of the Subway Players Cup, set to begin in the 2026/27 season, with a new format prioritizing player welfare. The rebranded League Cup will feature a Swiss-style league phase, where all clubs play at least six matches before entering the knockout rounds. UEFA Women’s Champions League clubs will not participate to help manage fixture congestion. The competition aims to provide more opportunities for young players and facilitate squad rotation, responding to feedback from players and clubs. The top eight teams will advance to the knockout stage, with the quarter-finals scheduled for January 2027 and the final taking place in March 2027.
