WTA plans vote to reduce tournament requirements at US Open

The WTA is set to vote on reducing mandatory tournaments for top players during the US Open later this month. Currently, top women are required to participate in six WTA 500 events alongside four Grand Slams and seven WTA 1000 tournaments. Council member Bob Moran indicated the number of required 500 tournaments may decrease to five or four after feedback from players about the demanding schedule. The tour aims to address these scheduling concerns due to ongoing player complaints. Adjustments to tournament requirements may affect prize money growth as well, with discussions expected.
