WWE discontinues Speed championship titles across NXT brand

Back in 2024, WWE unveiled a new title, the Speed championship, to go along with a new format the promotion was playing around with at the time through a partnership with Elon Musk’s X. It started as a weekly series that aired exclusively on that platform, where wrestlers would get to sprint through short matches with a three minute time limit. The partnership with X ended in 2025, so WWE simply moved the men’s and women’s titles over to the developmental brand, NXT, and the concept continued there. It never really took off, and always felt out of place. Finally, they booked a unification match pitting Speed Champion Wren Sinclair against North American Champion Zaria at Heatwave this past weekend. Any questions on what would come after Zaria won that match were answered on this week’s episode of NXT television: The Women's and Men's Speed Titles have been relinquished and are now defunct in NXT. pic.twitter.com/gxI4F3tXs0 — WWE (@WWE) September 2, 2026 This was a bit bizarre in the sense that NXT General Manager Robert Stone gave Zaria a choice on which title to continue on with and she went with the North American championship. He immediately turned around and stripped Lexis King of his men’s Speed title because Zaria’s choice meant it was now defunct. If she had chosen the Speed title, would Jackson Drake have been shit out of luck? Either way, the Speed titles are no more. Sad about it?
