WWE moves AAA's Triplemanía to MGM Grand due to ticket demand

WWE announced on Thursday (July 30) that due to an “unprecedented demand” for tickets, AAA’s Triplemanía event in Las Vegas will now take place in a larger venue. The two-night, two country Triplemanía kicks off on September 11 in Las Vegas with the second event taking place at Arena CDMX in Mexico City on September 13. But whereas night one was originally scheduled for Luxor in Las Vegas, the show will now be held at MGM Grand Garden Arena, which has a capacity of around 15,000. The move is further evidence of AAA’s hot streak. Last year’s Triplemanía 33 at the Arena CDMX drew a record attendance crowd of 19,691, and WWE has said it was the most-viewed and highest-grossing Triplemanía in the event’s history. AAA’s upgrade to a larger venue also comes at a time when WWE has struggled to sell tickets to its own major Premium Live Events, and AEW has not been selling out many shows despite moving to smaller sites. Of course, AAA has benefited from coming under the ownership of WWE in April 2025, which gave the promotion more exposure in the United States. WWE has also lent some of its stars to the lucha libra promotion, including Dominik Mysterio, who is the AAA Mega Champion. The recent booking in AAA — thanks to creative head The Undertaker — has received a great deal of praise as well. The Mask vs. Mask match between El Grande Americano (Ludwig Kaiser) and “Original” El Grande Americano (Chad Gable) at AAA Noche de los Grandes in May has been hailed by many critics as a frontrunner for 2026’s Match of the Year. AAA has not announced the full cards for Triplemanía, but Mysterio will defend his championship against the massively popular El Grande Americano. Additionally, WWE shared stars such as Rey Mysterio and Rey Fenix will appear. When WWE originally announced this year’s Triplemanía would feature a night in Vegas at Luxor, veteran wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that he was told the venue was chosen due to “business reasons.” “My gut is that whether it’s sponsors, whether it’s people looking for a TV deal or whatever, I think the idea is that they can get them to travel to Vegas,” Meltzer said. About the Luxor, which holds between 600 to 1,000 fans, Metlzer commented that filling up the space would give the appearance of a “packed” show without empty seats. He also said he didn’t think AAA could fill a larger venue given WWE recently held WrestleMania in Vegas. A full house at a small venue would thus give “the perception of AAA being super hot.” If AAA can now fill up the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the promotion will have more than good optics to make its case for being hot.
