Top rumor of the day: WWE doesn’t know who will win the King of the Ring This one may sound crazy, but a source close to WWE Creative told WrestleVotes Radio that the winner of the King of the Ring tournament was not “firmly decided” when the bracket was revealed. The source says at least three different stars were internally pitched as the tournament winner, and these wrestlers were strategically placed in the bracket with that option in mind. While this may seem like a sign of turmoil in WWE Creative, the more optimistic guess is that WWE did this as a reaction to so many recent plans being changed due to injury. Rather than put all their eggs in one basket for the King of the Ring winner, perhaps WWE wants to maintain some storytelling flexibility just in case another emergency strikes. WrestleVotes speculates it’s also possible that WWE and Brock Lesnar have yet to agree on when his trilogy with Oba Femi will finish, which would complicate Oba’s booking in this tournament until that issue is resolved. Votes wasn’t told the names of the specific stars who were pitched as King of the Ring winners, but it’s hard to imagine that group doesn’t include Femi, Seth Rollins, and Bron Breakker at the very least, and maybe even LA Knight or Jey Uso. Some of this frustration is related to their lack of creative direction since WrestleMania 42, and WWE not coming up with a new plan for the women’s world champion when Stephanie Vaquer got injured before Backlash. F4WOnline’s Bryan Alvarez heard that AEW World Champion MJF’s knee injury “is legit” but “they’re hoping it’s not serious.” LA Knight told Chris Van Vliet that WWE pitched the ring name “LA Donovan” to him at one point. The megastar quickly rejected that “awful and terrible” name. WrestleVotes mentioned that WWE is interested in signing Mike Santana after his TNA contract expires this summer. WWE apparently wants him on the main roster before the end of 2026. The outlet also heard that WWE is planning to celebrate the 30th anniversaries of Hulk Hogan’s nWo heel turn and the birth of Stone Cold’s Austin 3:16 catchphrase with new merchandise and other initiatives. According to Fightful Select, Myla Grace recently requested her release from TNA Wrestling, and it was granted this week.
