Xabi Alonso explains defensive strategy regarding Levi Colwill and Maxence Lacroix

Xabi Alonso defended his tactical configuration for the defensive line in his latest press conference. He currently utilizes Levi Colwill on the left of his back three while positioning Maxence Lacroix centrally. While acknowledging that Colwill might demonstrate different technical qualities in a central role, Alonso emphasized the need for defensive balance and consistency. He highlighted Lacroix’s physical strength and rapid integration into the squad over the past few weeks as key reasons for his central placement. The setup aims to allow Colwill to utilize his passing range from the left channel rather than playing out wide. Alonso also addressed the broader team structure, mentioning the progress of two teenage academy midfielders and discussing the current injury status of Caicedo.
