Tennessee defensive tackle Xavier Gilliam recorded three sacks and five tackles for loss in his team debut on Sept. 5. The No. 18 Volunteers secured a 56-9 victory over Furman at Neyland Stadium to open the season at 1-0. Gilliam, a transfer from Penn State, also forced a fumble and shared the team lead with six tackles. Tennessee’s defense held the Paladins to 221 total yards and forced six three-and-outs during the contest. The Volunteers next face Georgia Tech on Sept. 12.
