The New York Yankees added pitcher Luis Gil to the major league roster on August 30, 2026, while preparing for the final game of their series against the Boston Red Sox. To accommodate the move, the team optioned Yerry de los Santos to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Gil, the 2024 American League Rookie of the Year, has faced significant injury trouble over the last two seasons, limiting him to 15 major league appearances during that span. He recorded a 1-2 record with a 6.05 ERA across four appearances for New York earlier this season before spending time in the minor leagues. In six recent minor league outings, he maintained a 2.25 ERA and struck out 15 batters.
