The New York Yankees are set to face the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night, but they will do so without minor league infielder Jonathan Ornelas, who has opted out of his contract. Ornelas, 26, did not make an appearance in the majors this season after spending time with the Yankees during spring training. With George Lombard Jr. nearing a return and other players contributing at third base, the Yankees are unlikely to bring Ornelas up to the active roster, allowing him to explore free agency. In 280 plate appearances at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he recorded a.299 batting average with nine home runs.
