Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt continues rehab from elbow surgery

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced that Clarke Schmidt will make his second Minor League rehab start on Wednesday. Schmidt is returning from an internal brace procedure on his right elbow performed in July 2025. During his first rehab appearance with Double-A Somerset this past Saturday, the right-hander threw 20 pitches over two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts. The Yankees intend to utilize the former first-round pick as a reliever for the remainder of the 2026 season to limit his workload during the stretch run. Schmidt, who previously served as a starting pitcher, was placed on the 60-day injured list in February due to forearm tightness. The team views the upcoming Minor League outing as a critical step in assessing his readiness to rejoin the major league roster for the postseason.
