Zach LaVine faces uncertain role with Kings after opting for $49 million

Summary

Zach LaVine accepted his $48.9 million player option for the 2026-2027 season. After playing 39 games for the Sacramento Kings in the 2025-2026 season, LaVine's role with the team remains unclear. The Kings have not committed to his status as a starter or his minutes despite his status as the highest-paid player. LaVine had previously struggled to find a trade partner, leading to a move from the Chicago Bulls to Sacramento ahead of the February 2025 trade deadline. His decision to opt in suggests a long-term investment, but the franchise has indicated potential changes to their shooting guard position.
