Zack Wheeler leads Philadelphia Phillies past Atlanta Braves 4-2

Zack Wheeler struck out nine batters over six innings to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night. Wheeler overcame a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the first inning to limit the visitors to one run on three hits. Kyle Schwarber provided offensive support with his 41st home run of the season in the fourth inning. For the Braves, Ronald Acuña Jr. and Austin Riley each hit solo home runs, but the offense could not recover after falling behind early against the Phillies starter. Martín Pérez took the loss for Atlanta after allowing four runs over 3 2/3 innings of work. The victory moves the Philadelphia Phillies within four games of the Atlanta Braves for the lead in the NL East standings. The two teams conclude their four-game series on Sunday afternoon with pitchers Tyler Mahle and Aaron Nola scheduled to start.
