2025 Preakness winner Journalism officially retires following injury

Journalism, the winner of the 2025 Preakness Stakes and a runner-up in both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, has been retired due to an injury sustained during the gate prior to the San Diego Handicap at Del Mar. Despite starting several lengths behind after an issue at the gate, he went on to win the race. Post-race evaluations confirmed the injury, prompting his ownership group and Coolmore America to prioritize his future by retiring him. Journalism will embark on his stallion career at Coolmore's Ashford Stud. He earned over $4.7 million in his career, winning seven of 14 starts.
