A freak show fight took center stage as the main event of WWE AAA Triplemania 34 Night 1 on Friday night (Sep. 11, 2026) from Las Vegas, and it was glorious. Rey Mysterio battled the giant Omos. In the tale of the tape, the lucha libre legend was giving up nearly two feet in height and over 200 pounds in weight. In the end, Rey could not overcome the goliath. The freak show vibe was strong for this bout. I got goosebumps looking at the size difference. There was also the unknown factor of how Omos would perform. He’s been used sparingly enough that I didn’t know what to expect from him in the ring for a match of this magnitude. To set the story, Dominik Mysterio will defend the AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano at Night 2 of Triplemania 34 on Sunday in Mexico City. Dirty Dom needs Omos ringside as an insurance policy, but the giant was suspended by AAA general manager Rey Mysterio. That’s where this bout comes into play. Omos’ AAA career was on the line. Lose, and he is gone forever. Win, and his suspension is lifted. Rey played it cool early with quick footwork to mock the giant trying to snatch him. Rey played mind games stalling. Rey Mysterio vs. Omos es la lucha ESTELAR de #AAATriplemania Las Vegas ✨ pic.twitter.com/h5OjzTeku8 — Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (@luchalibreaaa) September 12, 2026 After a few leg kicks, Rey ran the ropes. That was a mistake. Omos delivered a back elbow to flatten the legend. The giant tenderized Rey like a slab of meat. Rey rallied to stick and move. The giant staggered into the ropes, and his arms got tied up. Rey peppered punches to the defenseless Omos until the referee called for a break. As Dorian Roldan tried to free Omos, Dirty Dom attacked his father. El Grande Americano zipped around the corner to ignite a donnybrook. EGA tackled Dom over the commentary table. In the chaos of a ref bump, Rey hit Omos in the head with a chair. The hero sprinted for a variety of 619s to the legs. Omos toppled down into position for a proper 619. Rey landed a flying splash. The fans held their breath hoping for victory. Omos kicked out at 2. As EGA hyped the crowd for support, Dominik unleashed chair shots to the ribs and throat of his rival. Rey ran into a big boot from Omos, then the giant closed with a huge chokeslam to win. Omos picks up the WIN and is now reinstated in AAA 🤯@TheGiantOmos pic.twitter.com/mPjXycBa3t — WWE (@WWE) September 12, 2026 The violence wasn’t over. Omos added a barrage of elbow drops after the match. When medics strapped Rey onto a backboard, Omos returned to the ring for a chokeslam through the commentary table. Omos chokeslammed Rey while he was still strapped to the board. It was over-the-top villainy at its best. Omos has lost his MIND!! 😨 Someone get some help for Rey Mysterio!!! pic.twitter.com/TR7eYeVdAO — WWE (@WWE) September 12, 2026 That match was the definition of sports entertainment. Rey and Omos delivered an old school David versus Goliath showdown. That aspect was intriguing on its own. Add in the AAA storylines for extra juice. The backside of Omos’ initial control became a little tedious, then the action sparked with Rey’s rally. Rey had the crowd in the palm of his hand for the 619 and pinfall off the flying splash. Omos played his role well as a giant. Frankly, the result was the correct decision. There is room to build up Omos for someone to eventually take him down in front of a raucous audience. Omos has that type of mystique in AAA. The post-match chokeslam was the cherry on the sundae. Share your thoughts on Rey Mysterio versus Omos. Were you entertained? Omos is living up to his reputation as a giant in AAA. Not only did Omos beat the legendary Rey Mysterio on Night 1, the giant also broke records in the Copa Bardahl in Night 2. Omos was the story of La Copa Bardahl, but there were also a few surprise returns. First was El Mesias (aka Mil Muertes from Lucha Underground). The AAA legend is a four-time mega champion. Personally, I think Mesias could be built up well enough as a challenger to El Grande Americano on a B-level special event. The other surprise was the final man to enter, Niño Hamburguesa. The crowd favorite was fired earlier this year over an altercation with a fan at an indie show. La Copa Bardahl is similar to the Royal Rumble. 15 men entered. Omos was the last man standing, and he did so in dominating fashion. Omos entered 13th and promptly demonstrated his power. One mini wasn’t scared to back down. Mascarita Sagrada unleashed a can of whoop ass on Omos. At least, that was the idea. Omos treated Mascarita like a fly buzzing around. This is just unfair 😯 pic.twitter.com/6HhCny4JFx — WWE (@WWE) September 14, 2026 Omos even did La Parka’s strut after eliminating the skeleton-man. Omos eliminates La Parka and mocks him 😖 pic.twitter.com/MH2vh2YE2V — WWE (@WWE) September 14, 2026 Omos ran through the field for six quick eliminations. The man that had the most success against the giant wasn’t even a man. It is Burger Boy. Niño Hamburguesa arrived to the ring hurling his weight around. The finish was high drama. After Omos goozled Mr. Iguana over the ropes, Mascarita jumped on the giant’s back. Mascarita fell down to the floor. Omos tumbled over the ropes and hung on for dear life to avoid elimination. Hamburguesa revved his moto to crash into Omos on the apron. The giant absorbed the impact, regained his wits, goozled Hamburguesa, and dumped the super heavyweight over the ropes with ease. El Niño Hamburguesa está de regreso y nos regala un final de locura de la Copa Bardahl#AAATriplemania CDMX pic.twitter.com/ofYNLPumV1 — Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (@luchalibreaaa) September 14, 2026 Omos is the first wrestler to win the Copa Bardahl in back-to-back years. I’m fairly certain that Omos broke the record for most eliminations with 9 in this match, but I can’t find specific details for every Copa Bardahl to confirm. Funny enough, Omos is now tied with Niño Hamburguesa for most wins (two) in this match. We need round three next year. Which was your favorite moment from La Copa Bardahl at Triplemania 34? What do you think the ceiling is for Omos in AAA?

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - SEPTEMBER 11: Rey Mysterio and Omos face off during Triplemania 34: Night 1 at MGM Grand Garden Arena on September 11, 2026 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Melina Pizano Lucha Libre AAA/WWE via Getty Images) | WWE via Getty Images Rey Mysterio is unquestionably one of the greatest luchadores in the history of professional wrestling. Nothing he did or did not do in the main event of night one of AAA Triplemania 34 in Las Vegas last night (Fri., Sept. 11, 2026) was going to change that. But I’ll be damned if he didn’t pull off yet another amazing feat. At 51-years-old, no less! This man went out there and had a legitimately entertaining battle against Omos in what was a perfectly executed David vs. Goliath style encounter. Mysterio is something like 5 ft, 6 inches tall while Omos is over 7 ft. There is no world where this should make any sense, but they figured out a way to pull it off. This tweet from Raion does a great job of showcasing the highlight of the match where their brilliance was on full display: This was the peak "small guy chops down a giant" segment – Rey hits Omos with a chair that Dom tried to use – Hurricanrana – 619 to mid section – 619 to the back – low 619 to right knee – chop block to left knee – Dropkick – traditional 619 – Diving Senton to finally get Omos on… https://t.co/VuxTy5ZxJf — Raion (@Raion74_) September 12, 2026 Rey methodically attacked the big man all around the ring to finally get him down to hit the splash and it felt like that should be the end. Omos kicking out was electric. In the end, Mysterio ate a big boot and a massive chokeslam to lose the match, all in the name of setting up Dominik Mysterio defending the AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano in the main event of night two come Sunday. Omos will now be there as insurance. Rey may not be able to make it, considering they ran a post-match angle where Omos choke slammed the veteran onto the announcer’s table while he was already laid out and tied down on a stretcher. Omos has lost his MIND!! 😨 Someone get some help for Rey Mysterio!!! pic.twitter.com/TR7eYeVdAO — WWE (@WWE) September 12, 2026 Yeah, this absolutely ruled from start to finish.
