Aaron Whitley ends rookie season with ValleyCats on injured list

Tri-City ValleyCats center fielder Aaron Whitley will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after being placed on the 60-day injured list. The rookie suffered a concussion and lower back strain on August 19 following a collision with a wooden fence during a game against the Brockton Rox. This injury occurred shortly after he returned from an earlier neck injury sustained when he crashed into a padded wall in Kinston on July 30. Despite the two incidents, the Niskayuna native maintains he will not change his aggressive defensive style of play. Whitley concluded his first professional season with a.333 batting average, four home runs, 25 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases over 52 games. Manager Greg Tagert noted that while Whitley had a successful rookie campaign, the team remains in a rebuilding phase.
