AEW Dynamite airs tonight (June 3) with a live show from Siegel Center in Richmond, Virginia. This is the second episode of Dynamite during the five week build to Forbidden Door, which takes place on June 28. AEW’s MYSTERY star might be coming in with a huge push Tony Khan potentially has a big surprise in store for tonight’s Dynamite when a Wild Card entry is revealed in the women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament to take on NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Alex Windsor in the opening round. The need for a mystery entrant came about after Willow Nightingale was pulled from the tournament due to injury. The winner of the tournament earns a world title match in Wembley Stadium at All In, which is AEW’s biggest event of the year. Willow looked like the favorite to win, but it’s a lot less clear who will get that kind of a push in her absence. The field now includes Hazuki, CMLL World Women’s Champion Persephone, Sareee, Skye Blue, ROH Women’s World Champion Athena, Windsor, and Wild Card. The door is wide open for Khan to bring in a mystery star who could actually win the tournament and get the championship chase for All In. Mercedes Mone is the obvious name that comes to mind, although it’s worth wondering if Khan has a different plan for her AEW return given that she somehow wasn’t part of the original bracket for the Owen. Britt Baker is another name who will always be speculated about in situations like this, but there are just so many question marks surrounding her future with AEW. The thing is, tonight’s Wild Card is far from a lock to beat Windsor, who could play the role of the local hero if she challenges for the AEW women’s world title at All In London. The possibilities are all over the place, in terms of how Wild Card will fare in the Owen Hart Tournament. Tune into Dynamite tonight to see if Tony Khan’s latest mystery star is someone of the stature of Mercedes Mone, who can actually win the Owen Hart tournament and get a world title match at All In, or if it’s someone who we won’t even be talking about by this time next week. The rest of the card MJF is defending the AEW world championship tonight against RUSH. The champ accepted the fight after RUSH called him a chickenshit, moments after MJF wanted nothing to do with a similar challenge from Mark Briscoe. Will the chicken farmer show up after this match is over and talk his way into being next in line for a title match? Is that AEW’s planned direction for the world title at Forbidden Door, or does IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Andrade El Idolo have something to say about it? TNT Champion Kevin Knight turned on Speedball Mike Bailey last week, so now they get to punch each other in the face during a singles match for the title tonight. Knight’s heel turn will be cut off at the legs if he loses, so I don’t like Speedball’s chances here. When will Darby Allin return to AEW to target the champ, who initially turned heel at his expense? Does Knight have bigger plans to join up with Swerve Strickland or maybe the Hurt Syndicate soon? The men’s Owen Hart Tournament continues tonight with a second round match between Will Ospreay and AEW National Champion Mark Davis. Ospreay is looking for revenge after Davis beat him to the point of winning by referee stoppage back in April. Can Ospreay’s vulnerable neck now withstand Mark’s piledrivers, thanks to his training with Jon Moxley and the Death Riders? Other stuff to keep an eye on – Speaking of the Death Riders, they fought alongside AEW World Trios Champions The Conglomeration and AEW International Champion Konosuke Takeshita in a post-match segment on Collision to run off the Don Callis Family and Shane Taylor Promotions. Will this multi-faction war continue tonight, or was it just a one-off alliance of convenience? – There will be a Survival of the Fittest match on the July 1 episode of Dynamite to crown a new TBS champion, after the belt was vacated by Nightingale due to injury. The six participants will be determined over the course of six different matches this month. Will AEW reveal the schedule of these qualifying matches tonight, or at least announce some specific stars who will be participating? Is this where Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander are heading next after their Lights Out match last week, and their exclusion from the women’s Owen Hart Tournament? – AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla isn’t afraid of any dumb bitches from NJPW who might be coming for her title at Forbidden Door. Will one of them appear tonight on Dynamite to issue a challenge? – Tommaso Ciampa has a list of 1004 reasons why he hates Chris Jericho and attacked him last week. What is Jericho’s reaction to Ciampa stealing his gimmick? – AEW World Tag Team Champions Adam Copeland and Christian Cage tried to celebrate their big win with a 5 second pose last week, only to be brutally ambushed by The Dogs. Is Cage medically cleared to compete after the heels used the steel steps to destroy his wrist? – Samoa Joe is leaving AEW again, but he forgot to appoint a leader for The Opps during his absence. HOOK seemingly stepped into the spot again, but it looks like Anthony Bowens also wants it. Does any potential leadership drama even matter if the group once again struggles to get TV time while Joe is out? – Brody King and Swerve Strickland will have their rematch in the second round of the men’s Owen Hart tournament. Will they get some promo time tonight to hype up the big fight? Fuck ICE. – Who will the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and “Jungle” Jack Perry be fighting at Forbidden Door, coming off their big win at Double or Nothing’s Stadium Stampede? Could it involve another match with Ricochet? What about Kazuchika Okada? – TayJay survived Divine Dominion’s 5-minute challenge, which earns them a shot at the AEW women’s world tag team championship this weekend on Collision. Can Anna Jay and Tay Melo actually pull off the upset when the titles are on the line? – Where the f*** are The Butcher, Keith Lee, The Blade, and Nyla Rose? What will you be looking for on Dynamite?
