Alex VanSumeren anchors USC defensive line performance against Fresno State

Transfer defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren contributed to the USC defensive effort during the recent game against Fresno State. While teammate Jide Abasiri earned attention for his disruptions in the backfield, VanSumeren performed a role in occupying double teams. This effort allowed the Trojans to limit the Fresno State ground attack to 39 rushing yards. VanSumeren finished the matchup with two total tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. Appointed as a team captain earlier this season, he has provided stability for the USC defense through the first two games. His ability to create space for linebackers has been identified as a factor in the unit's improved run defense.
