IndyCar has concluded the initial oval testing phase for its 2028 chassis, the Dallara IR28, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Alexander Rossi piloted the car on Wednesday, followed by Alex Palou on Thursday. While both drivers noted similarities to the current car, Palou reached speeds surpassing 218 mph on his final run. The test sessions were conducted in a validation capacity without the forthcoming engine, hybrid power unit, or qualifying boost. Though temperatures remained below 80 degrees for much of Thursday’s session, the car ran in a trimmed qualifying simulation. Following the completion of these validation tests at the Indianapolis track, the focus for the Dallara IR28 will now shift to further development. Planned validation testing will continue at other venues, including Sebring International Raceway, as the league prepares for future engine integration by Chevrolet and Honda.
