Analysts project Chargers as potential trade destination for J.J. McCarthy

Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has proposed a hypothetical trade that would send Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy to the Los Angeles Chargers. The proposed deal suggests the Vikings would receive a 2028 fifth-round pick in exchange for the signal-caller. McCarthy, who has struggled through his first two seasons in the NFL, would serve as a reserve behind Justin Herbert in Los Angeles. This move would reunite the 23-year-old quarterback with head coach Jim Harbaugh, with whom he previously played at Michigan. While the Vikings appear ready to end the McCarthy project, the Chargers are viewed as a developmental landing spot. The trade would place McCarthy under contract for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
