Australia claims 2-0 victory over Türkiye in World Cup opener

Australia defeated Türkiye 2-0 in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D match at BC Place in Vancouver on June 13. Goals from Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe secured three points for Australia. Irankunda opened the scoring in the 27th minute after a long ball setup. Metcalfe added the second goal in the final minutes following a defensive error by Türkiye. Patrick Beach made eight saves in a strong debut as Australia's goalkeeper. Australia now sits level with the United States at the top of the group.
