Lynch suffered a broken nose and a concussion after Nia Jax struck her during an in-ring brawl. "Becky Lynch recently opened up about an infamous moment that launched her career into the stratosphere. Dyring a brawl on a November 2018 episode or Raw, Nia Jax threw a punch at Lynch during a large, multi-person brawl that resulted in the Irish star sustaining a broke nose and a concussion. Photos of a defiant Lynch after the punch with blood streaming down her face became the defining image of her “The Man” persona, and she now credits the injury for leading to her main-eventing the following WrestleMania with Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair. Lynch won that threeway match at ’Mania, and she has since continued to be one of the top female stars in the company. During a Thursday (September 3) appearance on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, Lynch spoke in great detail with hosts O’Shea Jackson and T.J. Jefferson about that moment on Raw nearly eight years ago. “I have no recollection,” Lynch said when she began the talk of the injury. “I have little bits of a recollection.” She continued by saying that “none of that was my doing. That was all Nia (Jax). Thanks Nia.” Lynch then went on to discuss how what began as a gruesome injury ultimately became a transformative moment for her. “No, really, honest to God. It’s one of those things, like, you never plan these things, but it’s fate, destiny,” she said. “If that didn’t happen, maybe I don’t — if that doesn’t happen, I don’t get to the main event of WrestleMania, honestly, and that’s all thanks to Nia.” Regarding how Jax reacted to breaking her nose, Lynch said: “Of course, she felt terrible about it. “But it was the best thing that could have ever happened to me at that time, you know? So, thanks.” Jackson and Jefferson referred to the image of Lynch with the bloody nose as a “star-making” moment, but the seven-time women’s champion maintained that she didn’t really remember much of the time. Lynch said she knew to pose for the cameras until a light signal went off, then she went backstage and asked a security guard where she was and what had just happened. Lynch also initially thought her injury was much worse than it actually was. “I had no clue how it happened. So I thought, ‘Is my neck broken?’ Like my neck hurts,” she said. “I went from being this like badass tough guy to Stephanie McMahon, [who] was there just being the sweet angel that she is, and being like, ‘I’m really scared.’ You know? Two different sides of me.” Share your memories of the infamous broken nose incident in the comments below, and how you think it affected Lynch’s career.
