Belgium scores four goals to eliminate USMNT from World Cup

Summary

Belgium scored four goals to defeat the U.S. men's national team 4-1 in the FIFA World Cup, eliminating the Americans from further play. Previously, President Donald Trump intervened to overturn a suspension on striker Folarin Balogun, who had been banned for a red card. Trump's involvement drew ridicule after the loss, with critics describing the outcome as an extension of what they termed 'the Trump effect.' Following the match, Belgian players celebrated in jest, further mocking Trump's previous remarks. U.S. politicians reacted, with California Gov. Gavin Newsom thanking the team and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul expressing pride in their effort despite the defeat. Trump has yet to comment on the result.
