On September 12, 1985, the Boston Celtics signed David Thirdkill as an unrestricted free agent. The Bradley University alum, known as The Sheriff, previously played for the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, and San Antonio Spurs. During his two-season tenure in Boston, Thirdkill served in a reserve role and contributed to the team's 1986 championship run. Separately, the organization and the basketball community mark the passing of Brandon Hunter, who died on this day in 2023. Hunter, an alum of Ohio, was the 56th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft and played his rookie season with the Celtics before a stint with the Orlando Magic and a subsequent professional career overseas.
