Michael McCourt Jr., now 9, set six state records and a world record in his first powerlifting event at the USA Powerlifting Warwick Barbell Bash II on May 2. Competing in the Youth 1 Division, he deadlifted 209.44 pounds, squatted 110.2 pounds, and bench-pressed 82.6 pounds. Michael, trained by his father Michael McCourt Sr., practices four days a week while also participating in other sports. He aims to lift 235 pounds in his next competition scheduled for October.
