Brazil and Morocco draw in 2026 FIFA World Cup Group C opener

Brazil opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against Morocco at MetLife Stadium in New York. Morocco took the lead midway through the first half when Ismael Saibari scored from a Brahim Díaz assist. Vinícius Júnior equalized for Brazil shortly after the half-hour mark following a sequence of passes with Bruno Guimarães. Igor Thiago started the match for Brazil and played 62 minutes before being substituted. Both sides had opportunities to take the lead in the second half, with Yassine Bounou making a save on a shot from Thiago and Alisson Becker stopping a late Moroccan attempt to preserve the tie. Scotland currently leads Group C after their win against Haiti. Brazil is scheduled to play Haiti in Philadelphia on June 20.
