Breel Embolo unable to travel to U.S. with Swiss World Cup squad

Switzerland forward Breel Embolo did not travel with the national team to the U.S. on June 2 due to issues with his ESTA authorization. The Swiss Football Federation stated that his application was approved until the morning of departure but was placed under further review at 10:30 a.m. Embolo's travel complications follow a Swiss court ruling from 2023 related to a 2018 incident in Basel. The ruling was finalized nine months ago, and Embolo has since chosen not to appeal. The Swiss federation is in contact with authorities and hopes he can join the team soon. Switzerland's first World Cup match is on June 12 against Canada in Toronto.
